Social network giant, Twitter, fell victim to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack this morning, which lasted from 9:30 a.m. ET. to 11:30a.m. ET. Since then, service has been spotty and slow.
DoS attacks occur when hackers overload a website’s system’s servers with bogus requests, thereby preventing legitimate users’ requests to access the overwhelmed site.
Twitter’s Chief Executive, Biz Stone, said of today’s attack:
Attacks such as this are malicious efforts orchestrated to disrupt and make unavailable services such as online banks, credit card payment gateways, and in this case, Twitter for intended customers or users.
In an unrelated and, at time of going to press, unknown issue, Western Union, too, was out of service today.
