TV pitchman Billy Mays, who died of a heart attack in his sleep, June 28, aged 50, was found in autopsy to have heart disease caused, or contributed, by use of cocaine, which directly led to his death, according to the Hillsborough County medical examiner’s office.
Toxicology tests also discovered the painkillers hydrocodone, oxycodone and tramadol, plus anti-anxiety drugs alprazolam and diazepam in his system.
Cocaine can raise the arterial blood pressure, directly cause thickening of the left wall of the ventricle and accelerate the formation of atherosclerosis in the coronary arteries.
