Jared and Phelps do Subway

Disgraced swimmer, Michael Phelps, winner of 14 Olympic gold medals, has admitted to guzzling a beer a little more than an hour before his Cadillac Escalade collided with a Honda Accord, which ran a red light last Thursday, Aug. 13, in downtown Baltimore.

In 2004, he was fined $250 and received 18 months probation on a driving under the influence of alcohol conviction, which carried a mandatory ruling he had to speak to high school students about drinking and driving, and attend a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) meeting.

This time, however, he wasn’t breathalyzed at the scene of the crash, so won’t be facing DUI charges, but has been cited for having an invalid driving license.

Phelps, now a pitchman for the Subway chain of sandwich shops, admitted to “behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment” after photos emerged of him smoking marijuana from a bong in early 2009.

Perhaps instead of promoting Subway’s signature 5 foot long sub sandwich, he’d be better placed marketing a 5 foot bong for High Times!
