Beyoncé’s planned launch of “Sasha Fierce” (the diva’s alter ego) perfume has been slapped with a copyright lawsuit from clothing retail giant Abercrombie & Fitch, as it owns the rights to the “Fierce” named scent. In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in a Columbus, Ohio, federal court, it claimed that Beyoncé’s intent to use the name constituted trademark infringement, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practices.
Beyoncé filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in September 2008 for Sasha Fierce, However, Abercrombie & Fitch began selling Fierce in 2002, and trademarked the fragrance in 2003. A&F said sales of its fragrance have exceeded $190 million. It projects 2009 sales at $64 million.
