A Valley Village, Los Angeles, pharmacy received a faxed order for drugs for Playboy Playmate model Anna Nicole Smith, 39, five days after her son died in the Bahamas. Smith’s psychiatrist, Dr. Khristine Eroshevich, and an internist, Sandeep Kapoor, had ordered her a litany of pharmaceuticals that amounted to “pharmaceutical suicide” in the mind of the pharmacist.
The drug order included two sedatives, 300 tablets of methadone, a muscle relaxer, an anti-inflammatory drug, and four bottles of a painkiller nicknamed “hospital heroin.” The pharmacist thought,
“They are going to kill her with this.”
Five months later, on Feb. 8, 2007, Smith was dead, overdosed on prescription medication in a Florida hotel room.
The Los Angeles D.A. charged Eroshevich, Kapoor, and Smith’s boyfriend and lawyer, Howard K. Stern, in March with conspiring to illegally provide her with controlled substances. All three have plead not guilty. Additionally, recently unsealed affidavits written by state officials investigating the role her physicians and the lawyer-companion played in her drug use, cite evidence that both doctors separately participated in sexual contact with their patient, Smith, thereby transgressing professional boundaries.
A preliminary hearing is set for next month.
Digital Cheeseburger says, toss the book at ‘em and lose the key for their cell doors. It’s high time doctors corrupted with greed and fame were given some serious slammer time. Smith’s docs today, and Michael Jackson‘s tomorrow!
