The Swiss Justice Ministry in Bern, Switzerland, has rejected Roman Polanski‘s appeal to be freed from custody pending his potential extradition to the United States.
Ministry spokesman Folco Galli insists the government believes the veteran film director to be a high flight risk if released from prison. He was arrested Sept. 26 upon arrival at Zurich to collect a film festival award, and is wanted in the U.S. for statutory rape on a 13 year-old girl in 1977.
