“You’re So Vain” singer-songwriter Carly Simon filed Friday with Los Angeles County Superior Court a lawsuit seeking unspecified damages against coffee chain Starbucks Corp.’s now-defunct label “Hear Music” (joint venture with Concord Music) claiming the Seattle-based company failed to adequately promote her 2008 album, “This Kind of Love.” According to The New York Times, the album has sold only 124,000 units.
Starbucks, in a statement issued today, insisted it met all its contractual obligations and even extended the amount of time it promoted the album in New York and Boston. It went on to say:
“Unfortunately, sales continued to lag as the title received tepid response from music consumers. Other retailers faced the same fate with this CD.”
