Thomas Marasciullo of Hernando County, Florida has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit in a Manhattan, New York City, federal court against rappers, Lil Wayne (born Dwayne Carter) and Birdman (born Bryan Williams) their record label “Cash Money Records” (founded by Birdman and his brother Ronald Williams) and several music distribution outlets including Universal Music Group.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for Marasciullo’s 2006 “Italian-styled” spoken word recordings, which were allegedly used without pay or permission on “Respect,” “Loyalty,” plus two other tracks from the rappers’ joint 2006 R&B/hip-hop chart-topping, gold-selling album “Like Father, Like Son” and five tracks on Birdman’s 2007 “5 (Star) Stunna” album.
This is just the latest in a string of troubles besmirching Lil Wayne, who last month copped a plea to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, stemming from his arrest in July 22, 2007, when cops busted him for attempting to conceal a loaded .40-caliber semi-automatic gun on his tour bus following a Manhattan concert. In return for pleading guilty, he received a one-year prison sentence and not the five-years he was originally facing. Then, just last week, he was hit by a $1.3 million lawsuit from promoter Ed Strickland after the singer failed to show up for his Rochester, New York show on three different occasions, despite receiving a $100,000 advance in October.
