As widely anticipated, Sony is extending the initial 2 weeks only run of the Michael Jackson documentary movie “This Is It” by a further three weeks in North America, and between one and three weeks in the oversees market on a territory by territory basis.
Since hitting theaters 9 p.m. PDT Tuesday the film has failed to meet its box office expectations of $40 million-plus for the first 5 1/2 days, instead returning $32.5 million in domestic ticket sales. Worldwide it has grossed $101 million.
