Irish rock band U2 are to play a free concert in front of the Brandenburg Gate on Nov. 5 during the MTV Europe Music Awards to celebrate the almost 20th anniversary of the Berlin Wall that came crashing down on Nov. 9, 1989, ending almost 30 years of east-west separation. The show will be transmitted live to the awards ceremony to be held at Berlin’s O2 World Arena. Berlin formed part of the inspiration for the group’s 1991 album “Achtung Baby.”
