“Glee” star Jane Lynch put aside competitive cheerleading coach alter ego Sue Sylvester on Monday night and showed her (slightly) softer side as host of the 2010 VH1 Do Something Awards, which honor young people and celebrities for their charitable work and activism. And while stars like Bret Michaels and the “Jersey Shore” cast lent their talents to pre-taped promos for the show, it was a live appearance by Megan Fox, her first since marrying Brian Austin Green earlier this summer, that had people talking.

Dressed in a tan Azzedine Alaia dress, the actress introduced Do Something Award nominee Mark Rembert, who launched Energize Clinton County, an effort to make his hometown of Wilmington, Ohio, a Green Enterprise Zone. Rembert lost the $100,000 prize to 23-year-old Jessica Posner, who founded the Kibera School for Girls and Shining Hope Community Center in Nairobi.

Other winners of the night included the Jonas Brothers, who beat the likes of Lady Gaga to take home the Do Something Music Artist prize thanks to a wide variety of charitable deeds. Joe Jonas later tweeted his thanks to his fans, writing, “We won a Do Something award… Thank you fans! You can do something great for this world too! I believe in you.”

“Twilight” star and animal activist Kellan Lutz won the Do Something for the Animals. Christina Applegate got the Do Something Kick Ass for Survival Award, while Snoop Dogg took home the Do Something for the Kids prize. Other big winners of the night included Leonardo DiCaprio for Do Something Movie Star and “Glee” for Do Something TV Show.

Winners and guests were treated to performances by Travie McCoy with Bruno Mars, Natasha Bedingfield and Lifehouse.

Speaking of “Glee,” host Lynch sprinkled the feel-good show with funny sketches in which she attempts to do good deeds herself. She read “Eat Pray Love” to construction workers; showed slides of the people she’s done charity work with, including Mother Teresa, Lindsay Lohan and Jane Goodall; and appeared onstage with a number of Lynch doppelgangers.

Before the ceremony, MTV News caught up with the cast of “The Buried Life,” who were up for Do Something TV Show and hit the red carpet covered in oil to protest the devastating BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Castmember Dave Lingwood said that “protest something you believe in” was definitely on their buried list.
