The lightsabers are no longer glowing, the Lara Croft gear has been folded neatly away, and the Galactus figurines have been stowed until next year. Comic-Con 2010 has come to a close, and the countdown to its 2011 edition has begun.

This year’s geekfest has gifted us with a bevy of fresh updates about some of our most anticipated films, from Marvel productions like “Thor” and “The Avengers” to Disney’s “Tron Legacy,” the 3-D resurrection of the sci-fi classic. Take a look at the five biggest stories from this year’s Con.

Brad Pitt Signs On For “World War Z”
The first huge scoop came even before the festival’s first full day. On Wednesday evening, MTV News exclusively learned on Wednesday evening that Brad Pitt is officially set to star in “World War Z,” an adaptation of Max Brooks’ novel about a zombie apocalypse. Pitt had been rumored to be circling the lead role since winning a bidding war for the book rights in 2007. Brooks himself confirmed the news when we caught up with him on the Con floor.

“The Avengers” Cast Unites
A few weeks ago, Ed Norton acrimoniously parted ways with Marvel when the studio decided to re-cast the role of Hulk for its upcoming all-star superhero flick “The Avengers.” On Saturday night at the Con, that controversy was put to rest when the “Avengers” cast — including Mark Ruffalo as Hulk and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye — was introduced to an ecstatic crowd. The other folks up on stage included Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Clark Gregg (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), Sam Jackson (Nick Fury) and “Avengers” director Joss Whedon.

“Thor” And “Captain America” Footage Debuts
Saturday was a big day for Marvel. In addition to the “Avengers” news, the studio debuted footage from flicks featuring two beloved comic book icons. First came “Captain America: The First Avenger” with the official first look at Chris Evans as the titular hero and an unfinished clip featuring Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). Then came a preview of Chris Hemsworth laying down some serious hurt on his enemies in “Thor.”

“Green Lantern” Footage Premieres
While Marvel’s “Avengers” news was the most buzzworthy development at the Con, there’s no denying the excitement surrounding DC Comics’ “Green Lantern.” On Saturday, href="http://splashpage.mtv.com/2010/07/24/green-lantern-panel-report-comic-con-welcomes-ryan-reynolds-and-the-green-lantern-corp/">Ryan Reynolds popped into the San Diego Convention Center to debut footage from the upcoming film. The footage shown included looks at Reynolds in his Lantern suit and Peter Sarsgaard as the villainous Hector Hammond.

A New “Tron Legacy” Trailer
Disney’s CGI-heavy film might not have had the biggest buzz of the Con, but it might just be the most anticipated film of 2010. “Tron Legacy” has an “Avatar”-like air to it at this point, and the proves why. The preview has a massive scope, super-cool special effects and an extended look at Jeff Bridges after he’s been given a “Benjamin Button”-esque makeover so that he looks 30 years younger.
