Hollywood‘s top star sex symbols, Angelina Jolie, 34, and Megan Fox, 23, are rumored to be in the running for lead in the $150 million remake of the sixties campy classic sci-fi movie, “Barbarella,” starring Jane Fonda. We wrote earlier of the proposed revamped film here, with pictures from the 1968 original included in the article!

Producer of the original smash hit movie, Dino De Laurentiis, believes that one of only these two silver screen mega stars can guarantee that the pricey project becomes a box office blockbuster. A studio insider said:

“Whoever gets the part will become the absolute number one Hollywood sex symbol on the planet.”

Digital Cheeseburger, while recognizing Megan’s uncanny knack for putting butts on cinema seats, and her being the Buzz of the Town these days, it is Angelina who has the star power to drive a film of this magnitude. What do you think? Are you Team Jolie or Team Fox? Let us know!

The much anticipated, but much thwarted, remake of the 60′s space romper, Barbarella, is nearing becoming a reality now that Joe Gazzam is on board as writer, Robert Luketic attached as director, with the movie’s original producer Dino De Laurentiis along with his wife, Martha De Laurentiis, sharing producer credits on the update.

Back in May 2007, Robert Rodriguez had the project at Universal Studios as a vehicle for Rose McGowan. Writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade had a script, but the director and studio couldn’t reach an agreement over where to shoot.

This proposed new take will rely heavily on adventure and action with emphasis on sexuality and seduction, and less on the campiness of the 1968 original. At this time, the project is without a studio, but once the script, overseen by Lorenzo De Maio, is up to par, the producers will shop it around town.
